Independent Bookstore Day!
Join us Saturday, April 26 for Indie Bookstore Day, and support your local booksellers.
What is this? Every year, independent bookstores unite to throw a country-wide party. Independent Bookstore day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the awesome indie booksellers in your community, and support local business.
Why participate? We know you have a lot of book buying options, and we know we can’t compete with shelf space that the Big Guys have. BUT. We are what they aren’t: Women-owned, locally owned, with staff-curated book selections and merch from small-biz creatives. At Bookish (and all Indie bookstores), we do things differently because we want to promote literacy and community by the strengths of our own backs and the sharpness of our own wit.
AND – we have a cat!
The Big Guys are having a sale that day. We know. And do you know why they chose that day to have a big sale? Because it’s Indie Bookstore Day.
Heads up! When you support local, you give back to your community directly. Bookish helps to source books for dozens of schools and libraries in and around our town; we offer shelf space for local authors seeking to get their writing careers off the ground; we aren’t in the book business to make fast money on steep discounts and massive warehouses (if we had a warehouse, you know we’d stock it to the rafters!) — we’re in the bookish business; it’s about more than money to us. It’s about creating space, developing community, taking cat photos, and finding books that take our breath away.
Our staff is currently comprised of three women. Our owner is a literary expert and an educator (and sass queen). Our manager is a playwright, yoga instructor, volunteer actress, and avid reader. Our newest employee is an innovator, a creative artist in pursuit of her next medium, and the most welcoming bookslinger you could hope to meet in a shop.
AND (you guessed it): we have a cat!
